Description

House and conservatory, late C18 with C19 and C20 additions. Brick with pantile and slate roofs, cogged eaves, coped gables, 2 gable stacks, ashlar sills and dressings. 2 storeys plus garrets, 3 windows. Symmetrical west front has 3 C18 glazing bar sashes on both floors with segmental rubbed brick heads. South front has off-centre C19 round-arched brick porch with ashlar coping containing C19 half-glazed door with rectangular overlight, flanked to west by C19 conservatory, brick base with timber framing, 3 bays, canted hipped roof; to east by C19 canted brick bay window with ashlar dressings and 3 plain sashes. Above single C20 top hung glazing bar casement and 3 C18 glazing bar sashes, all with segmental heads. Above again, single C18 glazing bar ventilator with segmental head. C20 eastward extension, 1 1/2 storeys, 2 bays, has off-centre fully glazed door and two 2-light casements; above, single recessed C20 2 light casement. North front has off-centre C20 gabled brick porch, pantile roof and brick eaves, containing 6-panelled door, flanked to west by lean-to with pantile roof, single C20 2 light casement with timber lintel, and panelled door. Above, C18 glazing bar sash with rubbed brick head and above again, C19 2 light Yorkshire sash with timber lintel. C18 rear addition and C19 eastward extension. Outside, boundary wall, C18 and C19 along south side of Dykes End and east side of High Street. Coursed blue lias rubble and brick, with rubble and terracotta copings, containing C19 timber wicket and C20 timber gates with brick piers carrying ashlar caps. (NCC/js)
