Description

Infant School. 1878. Red brick with ashlar and yellow terracotta dressings. Slate roofs with ornate ridge tiles and finials plus a single tall red brick gable stack. Chamfered brick plinth and chamfered eaves cornice, and 'egg and dart' moulded gable eaves. East street front has central segment headed cross casement flanked by single taller segment headed cross-casements in slightly projecting sections which rise into pedimented gables. Each has moulded terracotta impost blocks moulded lintels, above terracotta bands inscribed INFANT and SCHOOL, and in the gables small circular windows with terracotta surrounds with four keystones. South front has a single gable front with impartite cross-casements, the central section taller with a segment head and above a further circular window with terracotta surround and keystones. West playground front has a tall segment headed cross-casement which rises into a pedimented gable with moulded terracotta inpost blocks moulded lintel, above a terracotta band and in the gable a further small circular window.
