Description
Rectory, now 2 houses. 1761 and late C20. Possibly by Thomas Wright. Coursed and squared rubble and brick, with slate and plain tile roofs. Ashlar plinth and dressings, deep wooden eaves, coped gables. 4 gable, 2 ridge and single rear wall stacks. 2 storeys plus attics, 7 bays. Irregular L-plan. Windows are mainly glazing bar sashes, those to main east front with keystoned ashlar surrounds. East front has setback central doorcase with fanlight, flanked by single Venetian windows. Above, 4 sashes. Above again, pedimented gable containing round headed sash. To right, 2 storey service wing, rendered, with a round headed casement. To right again, Rectory Grange has 3 sashes with segmental heads. Above, 3 sashes, the central one smallest. North gable has C20 fenestration and to right, C20 flat roofed porch. South gable has C20 casement and door. Rear has to left, late C20 catslide roofed addition, 2 bays. To right, hipped stair enclosure carried on iron columns. 2 doors alternating with 2 sashes. To right, early C19 bow window with 2 margin light sashes. Above, 2 sashes. Above again, a casement. Interior has dogleg staircase with landings and stick balusters and glazed screen with fanlight. 4 C18 doors. Common rafter roof. Rear wing has late C19 kingpost softwood roof. (NCC/js)
