Description
Parish church, now a roofless ruin. C12, C13, C14, C15. Coursed and squared rubble. Moulded plinth, string course and moulded eaves band. Windows are mainly unglazed broken openings. West tower, nave, south aisle, chancel. West tower, single stage, has coved eaves and remains of parapet. North west corner has canted stair turret. West side has C13 cusped double lancet. Nave north side has 2 large buttresses with string courses, and remains of 3 windows. South aisle has central buttress and 2 pairs of gabled corner buttresses. To left, chamfered C13 door. To right, remains of 3 mid C14 ogee double lancets. West end has a similar double lancet. East end has broken opening. 2 bay chancel has a broken opening to north and to east. South side has central late C14 doorway, flanked by remains of square headed double lancets. C13 tower arch, double chamfered and rebated, has octagonal imposts. South aisle has moulded sill band. East end has C13 piscina and integral sedilia with hood mould and moulded shafts. Chancel archway has C14 octagonal moulded imposts. Chancel south side has small C13 piscina. This building was superseded by a new church in 1874 and allowed to decay. Most of the monuments were removed to the new building. The ruins were consolidated in 1985. (NCC/js)
