Description

House, now youth centre. c1830, with late C19 and late C20 alterations. Coursed squared stone with ashlar front, ashlar dressings and hipped slate roof with 2 ridge and single rear wall coped stone stacks. Plinth and rebated eaves. 3 storeys; 3-window range. Square plan with 2-storey rear service wing. EXTERIOR: entrance front has 3 margin light sashes with double keystone lintels, and above, three 9-pane sashes with single keystone lintels. Central square flat-roofed porch with paired Doric pilasters and cornice, Moulded 4-panel door with overlight, in moulded surround. On either side, a single small plain sash. Beyond, single plain sashes with double keystone lintels. Right return has to left a margin-light sash and to right a 12-pane sash. Above, to right, a 9-pane sash. All these windows have projecting surrounds. Below, to left, a large square porch identical to the front porch, the door replaced by a large 6-pane window. To its right, a large tripartite glazing bar window with wooden mullions. Left return has to left a 12 pane sash and above it, a 9-pane sash, with projecting surrounds. Ground floor has, to left, a French window with overlight, and to right a canted stone bay window with parapet and 3 plain sashes. INTERIOR. entrance corridor has enriched frieze, 2 round arches and 4-panel doors. Stone cantilever dogleg stair with cast-iron twist balusters. Ground-floor right front room has enriched cornice and ceiling boss. Ground-floor left rear room has moulded cornice and 2 round-headed alcoves. (EH)
