Description
House, now public house. Late C17, with mid and late C19 and C20 additions and alterations. Coursed squared rubble and brick, with stone dressings and steep pitched pantile, slate and plain tile roofs. Single brick ridge and gable stacks. 2 storeys plus garrets; 5-window range. T-plan. Gable to street, has a plain sash to first floor and garret, and below, a late C19 two-light plain sash with central shaft, all with projecting painted stone surrounds. Left return has irregular fenestration with a plain sash in rendered surround, flanked to left by a 4-light glazing bar casement and to right by two 2-light and 1 single-light casements, all late C20. Below, central C20 door flanked by single margin-light sashes. To right, a similar sash and C20 door. All these openings have rendered surrounds. To left, a blocked doorway containing a window, and to left, 2 smaller windows. Beyond, set back C19 brick addition, 2 storeys, with a side wall stack. Rear has to left a splayed corner. Above, C20 wooden cross casement and below, a C19 four-light stone mullioned window. Rear wing has to left a single bay with a low parapet and a 4-light stone mullioned window on each floor, flanked by a single-light window to right. To right, 3 single casements. Below, a C19 two-light stone mullioned window, then a segment-headed doorway. (EH)
