Description
Parish church, C13, C14, C15, C19, C20. Coursed blue lias rubble, ashlar dressings, Welsh slate and leaded roofs; west tower, nave, chancel, north aisle, vestry, south porch. Tower, 3 stages plinth and string courses, diagonal buttresses, six setoffs, moulded battlemented parapet, 8 crocketed pinnacles. West door C14, with label mould and C16 plank door; above triple lancet C14; above 4 double lancet bell openings with label moulds and decorated tracery. North aisle. 3 bays, one C14 double lancet, one C15 triple lancet (restored), to west, C14 cove moulded ogee headed doorway with label mould. Diagonal buttress: east window C15 triple lancet. Vestry one bay lean to, one C19 double lancet. Chancel: 2 bays, single C19 lancet to north, east window triple lancet with panel tracery and hood mould (restored). 2 diagonal buttresses. 2 setoffs, coped gable with cross, to south off-centre priest's door, 4 centred arched with square label mould, flanked by single C15 triple lancets with hood moulds. Nave; 3 bays, 2 double, one triple C15 lancets with hood moulds; clerestory has 2 C15 2 light windows, string course, 2 anthropomorphic gargoyles, mouthed parapet, coped gable with cross. South porch has moulded and chamfered doorway, gable and slate roof. 3 bay nave; north arcade has 3 circular piers with circular and octagonal capitals, arches, chamfered and rebated, 5 C19. North aisle has re-set mask corbel in north-east angle, octagonal C17 font with shields in quatrefoil panels, inscribed 'He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved. Mark 16'. Fittings include pulpit C19, plain C19 pews and choir stalls, Royal Arms on canvas, 2 C18 benefaction boards under tower. Chancel arch rebated and chamfered, with filleted shaft responds with foliate capitals, C13. Tractarian wall painting at east end; carved and painted timber reredos. 1882; C19, stained glass. Piscina, C13 on stem in south wall. Communion table, C17 with C19 top. (NCC/js)
