Description
Small country house. Late C18 with C19 and C20 additions. East front. Red brick, ashlar dressings, hipped slate roof with 4 stacks and a wooden modillion cornice. 2 storeys, 3 bays with basement under northern bay. Set on a plinth. The central, slightly protruding bowed out bay has 5 steps with iron railings leading to a slightly recessed central doorway with arched glazing bar sash above. The doorway with glazed door and traceried fanlight, has an ashlar surround, consisting of single flanking pilasters which taper towards elongated fluted capitals supporting brackets with foliate decoration at their top. The brackets support a modillion, slightly projecting, open pediment. Beneath the pediment, imposts support an arch over the door. Flanking this central bay are single brick pilasters which support a fluted ashlar arch with 2 floral decorated voussoirs and keystone. Above is an open pediment with modillion cornice. The cornice extends the length of the eaves. The 2 outer bays both have an arched glazing bar sash window to the ground floor with a glazing bar sash to the 1st floor. Beyond are single giant brick pilasters. To the north, adjoining, is a C19 canted 2 storey bay window with attic, having 3 arched glazing bar sashes to the ground floor, with 3 glazing bar sashes under segmental arches above. The attic has a dormer with a pair of glazing bar sashes. This bay has an outer giant brick pilaster. These is a similar bay window on the south front. (NCC/js)
