Description

Stable block. Late C18. Red brick and ashlar. Hipped slate roofs and dentillated eaves, quadrangle plan. South front has single brick left gable and ridge stacks, with a central wooden cupola with lead roof and weather vane. 1.1/2 storeys, 9 bays. The central 3 bays slightly project and are topped by a pediment. Central flat headed carriageway with relieving arch over rising above the 1st floor opening. 4 ashlar hinge blocks. Flanked by single narrow rectangular panels. To the left are 3 arched wooden transom and mullion casements. To the right are 3 corresponding panels. Above the carriageway is a single wooden slatted opening, flanked by single oval panels. To the right are 3 wooden slatted openings. To the left a central doorway with wooden door flanked by 2 similar slatted openings. In the pediment is a C20 clock face. The east front of 1.1/2 storeys and 9 bays has a pediment over the central slightly projecting 3 bays. Central arched panel in relieving arch, which rises over the 1st floor opening. Either side are 4 panels, the 2 on the immediate left and the single one on the immediate right are also arched. The 2 panels on the far right contain single glazing bar sashes, the 3rd from the right has a single small casement and the 2nd from the left has a single glazing bar casement above a wooden panel. Above is a central glazing bar Yorkshire sash with a similar single sash to the right and a single panel to the left. The outer 3 bays each have a central circular panel flanked by single glazing bar Yorkshire sashes in round openings. The interior quadrangle has on the east side 5 archways, each with double wooden door and ashlar hinge blocks. The left one however is blocked and has a sash window. To the left is a single doorway with flat head and panel over. To the right is an arched doorway with single fixed light over. Above are alternating square openings (3) and round openings (2), all contain glazing bar Yorkshire sashes except for the left round opening which has a panel. The south side has a central flat headed carriageway with arch over, rising above the 1st floor window. To the left is a central doorway with overlight flanked by single wooden slatted openings with glazing bar overlights. To the right a central doorway with glazing bar fanlight flanked by single glazing bar casements. Above is a central glazing bar sash. To the right is a central panel flanked by single casements, to the left a similar central panel with a wooden slatted opening to the left and a small doorway with wooden door to the right.
