Description
Workshops and Camellia House. Mid C19. Ashlar, iron and glass. Single storey, 18 bay, ashlar workshops. Slate roof, sloping from the wall behind. Single tall yellow brick stack to the right. Moulded eaves band. The left 14 bays alternate 7 doorways with rusticated jambs, flat arch and keystone with 7 glazing bar sashes in raised ashlar eared architraves with keystones. The 15th bay has a large doorway with part glazed door flanked by single rusticated pilasters. To the right are 2 similar sashes and surrounds with C20 vents under and a similar small doorway. Projecting from the left is the glass and iron camellia house. Single storey, 3 bays. Each bay, with decorative iron work and glazing, is divided by an iron pier and has 3 arched and traceried fixed lights. The roof is supported on iron piers and brackets. Lacks much of the glazing and some of the iron work. Rear entrance has an ashlar wall with balustraded parapet, and central single large carriage archway. Arch supported on 2 imposts with vermiculated console keystone, and 2 similar projecting voussoirs. Arched double door under with remnants of glazing. Flanked by 2 vermiculated rusticated pilasters supporting a plain frieze. (NCC/js)
