Description

House. Mid C18, refronted and extended c.1800. Stucco, probably over brick. Slate roofs. Single external stack to rear of 4 storey wing and remains of right external gable stack. Set on a narrow plinth. 4 storey, 3 bay C18 wing in the form of a medieval gatehouse with 2 storey, 4 bay extension to the right. The 4 storey wing has an embattled parapet to all but the rear and the single central bay of the front, this bay has a plain parapet. Flanking the single central bay are single circular engaged mock turrets which terminate above the parapet with 2 tiers of crenellations, the lower one projects and is supported on brackets. Single central glazing bar tripartite sash. In the outer single bays are single blind rectangular panels, the right with single small pointed arched fixed light. Above, single similar sash with single similar panels in the outer bays. Above, single glazing bar sash with single similar panels in the outer bays. On the top floor is a single central recessed quatrefoil panel with single similar rectangular panels in the outer bays each with single decorative cross pattern arrow loops over. The left side of this wing has a single rectangular blind panel with small C20 casement, above is a doorway with glazing bar double door and Gothic glazing bar overllght, with wood and iron balcony. Above is a single similar panel and on the top floor a single similar panel containing a single recessed quatrefoil with single decorative cross pattern arrow loop over. The right side has a single glazing bar casement with single similar arrow loop over. The extension to the right has a raised eaves band. Closed porch with moulded cornice and embattled parapet, having a panelled door with pointed arched overlight with Gothic glazing bars and the left single remaining attached colonnette supporting the remains of a hood mould. To the right are 3 tripartite glazing bar sashes with 3 smaller glazing bar sashes above. Rear of the 4 storey wing has on the top floor 2 pointed arched casements with Gothic glazing bars, hood moulds and label stops. Rear of 2 storey wing has single storey extensions. (NCC/js)
