Description

House. Mid C17, dated 1703, with later C18 and C20 extensions and alterations. Red brick and rubble. Pantile roofs. North front with single central ridge red brick stack. Raised gables, coped with slate to right and tiles to left, with kneelers. Deep chamfered coursed rubble plinth. 2 storeys plus basement and garret, 5 bays. L-plan with later additions. First floor band. In the basement left is a single window opening. Central doorway with 6 fielded panel door and moulded wooden frame. Either side are 2 casements with lead glazing bars. Above are 5 similar smaller casements. All openings are under segmental arches. West front with altered openings. East front with altered openings has a C18 projecting gabled wing and various later infill extensions, one dated 1703. Said to be on the site of the house of the Markham family. Interior has room on the west side with possible C16 beam. (NCC/js)
