Description

Pigeoncote, stable blocks and barn. 1804 with later C19 alterations. Red brick. Pantile roofs. 2 storey plus attic, central 2 bay pigeoncote flanked by single storey, 4 bay stable blocks. The pigeoncote has a single external red brick stack to the right and has a dentil and raised brick band forming a pediment in the gable. All have dentil eaves. Pigeoncote has a single wooden slatted opening with glazing bar overlight under segmental arch and a doorway with ashlar hinge blocks and plank door under segmental arch to the left. Further left, in the stable block, is a single similar opening, a similar doorway, a single similar opening and finally a single low opening with wooden door. In the stable block to the right is a single similar slatted opening, a doorway with double C20 door and ashlar hinge blocks and further right 2 similar slatted openings. Above in the pigeoncote is an arched ashlar panel dated 1804 with entrances for pigeons and 2 rows of ashlar perches. In the pediment is a single round owl opening. Projecting from the right of the right stable block is a single storey, 3 bay stable block with raised eaves band and 2 similar slatted openings with, to the right, a similar doorway. Attached to the right and projecting is a 2 storey barn with dogtooth eaves and altered openings. Projecting from the right of the barn is a heightened 2 storey, 8 bay stable block with 2 ridge stacks and dentil eaves. Having glazing bar casements, doorways with wooden doors under segmental arches and a larger doorway with double door. (NCC/js)
