Description

Stables now flats, c.1860. Ashlar. Shaped tile roof. Coped gables and kneelers with mannerist style orb finials. Many stacks. Moulded eaves band. Set on a plinth. Quadrangle plan. One and a half storeys. South front of 11 bays. Central projecting gabled bay, topped with a decorative cupola and weather vane, with large vermiculated rusticated carriage archway with keystone. Flanked by single vermiculated rusticated pilasters which support on entablature surmounted by 2 similar half finials. Either side are 5 blind rusticated arches with keystones, impost bands, and glazing bar fanlights above the bands to all but the outer single arches. Above is a central glazing bar sash in raised ashlar surround with keystone, decorative ashlar scroll at each corner and 2 consoles supporting a slightly projecting hood, with clock face over in raised ashlar surround with keystone at each of the cardinal points. Either side are 5 glazing bar sashes. The east front of 11 bays has central and outer single projecting, gabled bays. Central doorway with panelled door, glazing bar overlight and keystone. Flanked by single vermiculated rusticated pilasters, single glazing bar marginal sashes and single similar larger pilasters. The entablature over has 2 similar half finials. Either side are 4 blind rusticated arches with keystones and impost band. The outer bays have single glazing bar sashes in similar surrounds to the central doorway. Above centre is a single glazing bar sash in similar surround to the south front, flanked by 4 glazing bar casements, and single glazing bar sashes in similar surrounds. The north and west sides correspond to the south and east sides respectively, with a few modifications. Interior has a single central gabled bay to each side, both floors corresponding to the central outer gabled bays. There are a few doorways in rusticated surrounds and many glazing bar sashes with many similar smaller sashes above. All sashes to all fronts are in raised ashlar eared surrounds with keystones.
