Description

Fountain. C16. Removed and restored 1720. Re-sited early C19. Ashlar. Chamfered plinth, moulded string course, traceried band, crenellated parapet. 2 stages. Octagonal plan. Set in round pool with moulded coping. Lower stage has scalloped round headed niches. Those to east and west have round basins with lion mask spouts. Parapet has remains of 8 animal figures forming buttresses to smaller upper stage. Moulded rim has to south east, tablet inscribed 'LB' and on opposite side, tablet inscribed '1720 W.B.'. Upper stage has nodal shafts and lozenge band. Crocketed parapet has remains of 7 grotesque animal and 2 human figures. (NCC/js)
