Description

Small country house. C18 with extensive C19 additions and C20 alterations. Brick with hipped and gabled C20 plain tile roofs. Brick plinth, first floor band, stone coped gables with kneelers. 2 storeys plus garrets, 6 bays, square plan with west wing. Windows are mostly glazing bar sashes, those to south front have segmental heads. Main south front has to west, C19 addition, single storey, single bay, with a large mullion and transom casement. South front has recessed central bay with projecting flanking bays, that to left hipped, that to right gabled. Central glazed door with segmental head, flanked by 3 sashes, and a similar sash in each return angle. Above, 5 sashes and to right, a round headed casement in ashlar surround. Above again, 2 hipped dormers with glazing bar casements. East front, C18, has central beaded ashlar doorcase with curved brackets and moulded hood, and margin stile panelled door. Flanked by 2 sashes with rubbed brick heads. Above, 5 similar sashes, and above again, 3 hipped dormers with glazing bar casements. Rear elevation has recessed bay flanked to left by gabled C18 wing and to right, projecting wing. To right again, C19 gabled addition. Partial eaves band and panelled parapet. Recessed bay has moulded pedimented doorcase with scrolled brackets, flanked by single sashes with segmental heads. Beyond, to left, projecting half hipped surround to cellar door. Beyond, to right, recessed panel containing a sash. Beyond again, door with segmental head and 2 mullioned casements. Above, 4 sashes with segmental heads. Above again, to left, a round headed casement with chamfered ashlar surround. Interior refitted c.1960. (NCC/js)
