Description

House, now club. Early C18, with mid C19 and late C19 additions and alterations. Brick with stone dressings and slate roofs. First floor band and sill band, second floor band, eaves cornice, coped parapet and gables, moulded brick dentilled eaves at rear, 4 gable stacks. Front has projecting central bay. Double range plan. 3 storeys; 5 window range of wooden cross casements, the central one with moulded architrave and keystone. Above, similar fenestration with smaller windows. All these windows have segmental heads. Below, central moulded stone doorcase with keystone and pediment on scroll brackets. Half-glazed door with shaped panels and overlight, and lamp bracket. To left, late C19 square bay window with leaded toplights. To right, 2 cross casements with segmental heads. Right side has 2 storey mid C19 addition with hipped roof. 2 windows. Rear has irregular fenestration with a central glazing bar sash, flanked to left by 2 similar sashes, and to right, a 2 storey canted bay window with dentilled eaves and plain parapet, with 4 round-cornered plain sashes on each floor. Above, 4 smaller glazing bar sashes, the 2 to left being dummies. Below, central C19 glazed door with flat hood and C20 brick cheeks. Above it, a segment headed glazing bar sash with balcony. To left, a C20 French window with sidelights. To right, single storey late C19 billiard room with single gable stack. Canted left corner with 3 plain sashes and blank dormer. To right, segment headed French window with side and top lights. Interior has late C18 open well stair with moulded string and vase and stem balusters, fluted round newel and moulded handrail. Entrance hall has moulded round headed arch with imposts and keystone. First floor rear dining room has C18 enriched cornice and plaster ceiling. Various fielded 6-panel doors, 2 in the entrance hall with eared and shouldered architraves. Matchboarded billiard room has fitted benches and fireplace with eared architrave. (EH)
