Description
House. 1673, with rear wing C19 and alterations C20, forming Old Hall Farm House. Brick with C18 and C20 pantile roofs with plain tile verge. Chamfered brick plinth, moulded first floor band, with frieze of modillioned lunettes. Modillioned eaves. 3 ridge stacks. 2 storeys, 4 bays, with rear wing 2 storeys, 4 bays. Main east front has off-centre 2 storey porch with plain tile roof. Round-headed doorway with moulded brick keystone and imposts, and banded brick Ionic pilasters, containing C17 lozenge panelled door. Flanked to left by one and to right by 2 mullioned and transomed casements with coyed brick mullions, transoms and reveals. Above porch, datestone inscribed '1673' with hood mould and Cartwright Arms. Above again, lunette in blocked opening, flanked by obelisk shaped pilasters. Above, to left, blocked mullioned and transomed window, and to right, 2 C19 mullioned and transomed casements. At rear, 2 C20 casements. Interior has front room to left with painted panelling and reeded marble fireplace. Rear wing has 5 C20 casements of various sizes, with dentillated hood moulds. Above, 2 gabled through-eaves dormers with single similar casements. (NCC/js)
