Description
House. Early C18, remodelled and extended mid and late C19. Coursed and squared rubble and brick with hipped and gabled plain tile roofs. Ashlar dressings. First floor bands. 11 ridge and 4 side wall stacks, 2 of them external, plus external corner stack. 2 storeys, 8 bays wide. Square plan. Glazing bar sashes mostly have keystoned heads. Irregular front has off-centre square balustraded porch with Corinthian piers and round headed casement. To its left, 2 sashes. To its right, setback section with sash and French window with single flanking casements. To left, square and to right canted 2 storey hipped bay window. That to left has French window with single flanking casements. That to right has mullioned casement flanked by single sashes. Beyond again, a sash. Above, to left, 3 sashes. To their right, triple sash. To right again, 2 sashes. Beyond, mullioned casement with single flanking sashes. To right again, a sash. South side has 4 sashes and to right, canted balustraded bay window with central French window. Beyond, 2 casements. Above, 5 sashes. To left, 2 storey gardener's cottage with central door with hood, flanked by single sashes. Above, 3 sashes, the central one smallest. To left again, iron conservatory, late C19, iron framed. South wing has clerestorey. East wing has lean-to roof with finial. Mid C19 service wing, to west, 2 storeys, 10 bays, has regular fenestration with C19 and C20 casements, mostly with segmental heads. Late C19 addition, 2 storeys, 4 bays, L-plan, has canted oriel turret on north-west corner. Regular fenestration with sashes. North side has large off-centre canted hipped oriel and regular fenestration. (NCC/js)
