Description

Cottage, mid C17, remodelled C18, C19. Stucco, part timber framed with possible herringbone king post in the left gable which is clad in weatherboarding. Pantile roof with single brick gable stack to the right. 2 storeys, 3 bays. The left side is set on a plinth. Central doorway, panelled door, overlight with coloured glass, wooden surround with slightly projecting hood. To the right is a C19 canted window bay with glazing bar sashes, to the left a large shop window. Above are 3 irregularly dispersed-glazing bar Yorkshire sashes. To the rear is a 2 storey extension. Recent restoration and partial demolition of the rear extension has revealed 2 upper bays of herringbone timber framing, and a largely intact collar roof, plus much further framing including stud partition walls. The building was probably built at the end of the C17, with a 2 bay plan with cross passage, and was probably one of a pair of original houses. (NCC/js)
