Description

Estate manager's house. 1876. by John Birch for Savile family. Gothic revival style. Brick with ashlar dressings. C20 plain tile roof, gabled and hipped. chamfered plinth, moulded, corbelled jetty to north, elaborate bargeboards with drop finials, rainwater heads with owl motif. 3 grouped, corniced ridge stacks. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Square plan. Windows are latticed iron casements with ashlar and moulded brick mullions, transoms, reveals and hood moulds. North front has to left, projecting gabled bay and to right, 2 smaller gables. Central gabled porch has brick plinth. 2 round piers and weatherstripped door. Flanked by single casements. Above, 3 casements and gable plaque with owl. East front has 3 gables. To left, setback door to right, 2 casements. Rear elevation has central door and above it, datestone inscribed '1876'. To left 2 and to right 3 casements. Above, 5 casements, the central one C19. (NCC/js)
