Description
House. Early C19 with C20 alterations. Roughcast, colourwashed, with stone dressings and hipped slate roofs. Plinth, rebated eaves, 4 ridge stacks. Windows are mainly glazing bar sashes. 2 storeys. Symmetrical north front, to street, has a central hipped projection, and 4 windows on each floor, the outer ones being smaller. East front has 3 windows and central recessed porch with thin iron columns, containing a 6-panel door with overlight, and flanking lights with Gothic glazing bars. On either side, larger sashes with Gothic glazing bars. South side has a central sash and below, 2 taller sashes. Rear wing, to left, has a late C20 conservatory and glazing. Interior has a dogleg cantilevered stair with cut string, turned balusters and moulded handrail. Hall doors with broken segmental pediments and finials. In the right front room, Byron's autograph on the wall. (NCC/js)
