Description
Railway viaduct and bridge, opened 1897 on the Lancashire, Derbyshire & East Coast Railway's Chesterfield to Lincoln line, bought by Great Central Railway in 1907; bridge cost £65,000 to build and comprises 59 arches in total (around 36 are on the Bassetlaw side of the river, the remaining on the Lincolnshire side) using 9 million bricks (mostly blue engineering bricks with red and blue bands between arches), with the River Trent crossed by 4 metal girder spans supported by cylinder columns with connecting cross supports; passenger traffic ceased in 1964, freight traffic ended in 1980, recently became part of the national cycle network
