Description

2 houses, now accountants' offices. Late C18 with mid C19 additions, converted to offices late C20. Brick with stone dressings and slate roofs. 12, to right, has first and second floor bands, rebated eaves and 2 gable stacks. Windows are glazing bar sashes, those to the second and third floors with segmental heads. All have rubbed brick heads. 4 storeys; 5 window range. Third and fourth floors have a central blank. Fourth floor windows are smaller. Below, central reeded wooden doorcase with open pediment on brackets. Fielded 6-panel door with blank fanlight, flanked by round headed scrapers and beyond, on either side, 2 windows. At the rear, a 2 storey wing. 14, to left, has plinth and single gable stack. 3 storeys; 2 window range of glazing bar French windows. Above, 2 smaller glazing bar sashes. All these windows have rubbed brick heads. Below, to left, a late C19 canted bay window with plain sashes. To right, a reeded wooden doorcase with open pediment on curved brackets. Fielded 6-panel door and fanlight. Interiors: 12 has 2 small dogleg stairs with winders and stick balusters. Right ground floor room has full height fielded softwood panelling and late C19 slate fireplace flanked by fitted cupboards. 14 has a dogleg stone stair with winders and iron stick balusters, altered on the ground floor. Upper fights are wooden, with turned balusters and newels. (EH)
