Description

J May, Mr K Barnes and other members of the Thoroton Society carried out a small excavation on 22 and 23/10/1978. By the time of the excavation the foundation trench had been filled with concrete. A trench 2m by 4m was laid out around the area of the burial pit, to try to define the surviving part of the pit's edge, and to look for any evidence of a burial mound. (1) See E971 for earlier non-archaeological excavation.
