Description

Emergency excavations were carried out for the Ministry of Public Buildings and Works, during October and November 1963. This important site has for many years suffered from the attentions of untrained amateurs, whose diggings have done a considerably amount of damage. Site 2 (field 10, threatened by unauthorised digging). Trial trenching. (1) Greenfield was working on behalf on the MPBW when the site was threatened by building operations relating to the power station. Site 2 is now under plough. For details of trial trenching see Fig 2. (2) Grid reference estimated - diagram of the site in (2) suggests it is further to the west, near the cliff edge, than the given grid ref. See E126 for previous excavation, E8109 for earlier finds, E129 and E708 for later trenches.
