Description

Following proposal to extend British Gypsum's quarry, a preliminary exploration was carried out by Malcolm Dean and students of Newark Technical College in April 1970. This was followed, after the removal of the topsoil by the quarrymen, by excavation in May and June. In all, some 4.8Ha (12 acres) of ground was stripped of topsoil and the entire area carefully searched. The limits of the Ro settlement to the N, W and E were clearly determined, its total extent being somewhat in excess of 1.6Ha (4 acres). (1) Finds at Newark Museum.
