Description

The excavation was begun on 12/01/1952. The method adopted has been to concentrate on a restricted area of the field, 100ft by 200ft, and by cross-trenching to establish the main lines of any wall foundations. It is proposed also to retain key baulks as stratification controls. (1) Digging (in 1954-5) has been limited almost entirely to an area outside the S wall of the building, where a number of 8ft squares have been opened. (4) An excavation likely to be the site of the hall is visible at above grid ref. (5) * some finds at Nottingham City Museums, unpublished pottery drawings by Todd, M. and Alvey, R.C. See E 148 for later excavation.
