Description

At this time, the outer enclosure ditches (of Ad Pontem) were erroneously though to extend into Deadman's Grave field. Accordingly, two trenches were excavated there by NAC, in an attempt to locate them. It is now clear from APs that they turn to the W before entering this field, and the excavations showed c 3ft of dark loam overlying gravel and sand. The trenches were generally flooded at a depth of 2.5ft. (1)
