Description

Trenches were located in relation to the roads surrounding the proposed development site to investigate the possibility of boundary ditches and other features relating to the development of the late medieval settlement. Four trenches measuring 20m x 1.6m were opened. Trench 4 was later extended. Topsoil and overburden was removed by mechanical excavator. Excavation ceased when either undisturbed natural deposits or archaeological features were identified. The nature of these deposits was assessed by hand excavation. (1)
