Description
In March 1994 TPAT undertook a watching brief during environmental improvement work at Church Walk South, Newark. The area was approximately 570m2, situated between the church of St Mary Magdalene and the Market Place … the earth below the paving stones was excavated archaeologically and in general only those burials in the top 0.3-0.4m were excavated. In several cases, skeletons up to 0.5m deep were excavated. Where possible any skeletons below this level were left in situ. (1)
