Description

Made necessary by a programme of repair to the Town Wharf, Newark. The site comprised a 150m length of the wharf extending NE from the [Trent] bridge. The majority of the works were confined to the footpath c. 2.5 to 3m wide along the edge of the river. … excavations seem to have been almost entirely contained within comparatively recent ground-raising deposits of C18 and later. Although the uppermost extent of possible riverine sediments was encountered close to the river-wall, they remained undated. (1) Grid ref centred on wharf. See E9001, E9002 for further investigation on this site.
