Description

Magnetometer survey was undertaken over c.0.8ha within 2 areas to be affected by the dualling of the A453, with the intention of attempting to locate any outlying archaeological features associated with the Roman villa situated c.200m to the SE (M441). No anomalies of significance were detected in the area to the SW of the farm entrance track. To the NW of the track, a number of faint linear and roughly parallel anomalies may indicate the ploughed-out remains of medieval ridge and furrow, or perhaps more recent agricultural activity. Two faint curvilinear anomalies may indicate further buried features, perhaps of archaeological origin. (1) See E9015, E9016 and E9017 for fieldwalking. See E9007 for cross refs to A453 improvement scheme evaluations.
