Description

Topsoil magnetic susceptibility readings were taken at c.100m intervals, with additional readings taken at topographical locations which appeared more suitable for former settlement. Magnetometer scanning was carried out along two parallel traverses on a NE / SW axis, spaced 150m apart. An area within the S tip of the survey area was selected for detailed gradiometer survey to intersect with the presumed line of the Roman road. A small ferrous pipeline was detected but no underlying features suggesting earlier activity were apparent. (1) See E9057 for fieldwalking, E9058 for trial trenches.
