Description

The ditch of the E enclosure had the most chance of being permanently waterlogged; the trench was positioned across it. The annex ditch to the N was included. The trench was extended some 12m into the enclosure to test for interior features and palisades / fences perhaps associated with the enclosure ditches. A 39 x 1m strip of ploughsoil was removed by shovel and any artefacts located to a 5m length, then the adjacent 3m was removed by a JCB giving an area of 39x4m. (1) See E9117 for geophysics, E9118 and E9119 for fieldwalking / metal detecting surveys, E6374 for salvage excavation of well.
