Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken, in conjunction with limited trenching, during topsoil stripping prior to an office development at a site approximately 1km SW of Harworth-Bircotes. The work was commissioned by R J Budge (mining) Ltd and carried out by Heritage Lincolnshire on behalf of Trent and Peak Archaeological Trust. The area measured 90m N-S and between 200 - 300m E-W. Three trenches … the size and layout of these trenches were such as to ensure that the ditch would be encountered … but no archaeological deposits or features were evident on the development site. Modern ploughmarks were the only features visible cutting the natural subsoil. (1) NB Site is in Styrrup with Oldcotes parish, not Harworth. (2)
