Description

Subsidence of underground mine workings beneath the River Maun and adjacent land in the vicinity of Conjure Alders caused extensive flooding. A remedial strategy involved the construction of new higher levees from floodplain materials adjacent to the channel and a change in the use of the floodplain including the creation of riverside lakes. The site was visited approximately once a week. The site was inspected by paying close attention to newly stripped areas and sections within the basal sands and gravels. (1) No plans or details of areas stripped provided.
