Description

Watching brief during the removal of overburden from phases 1 and 2 of a new gravel quarry. The topsoil and underlying subsoil were removed in two separate spits by Box-graders and bulldozers to a depth of between 0.6 and 1m below the original ground level. (1) A watching brief during topsoil stripping in advance of mineral extraction on land to the south of Sheepwash Brook near East Leake identified a pit containing burnt and fire- cracked stones. (2)
