Description
The intended objective of the excavations was to characterise ditch fills and assess their potential for the survival of organic remains. However, once it had been appreciated that the gradiometry had not been successful in locating the cropmark ditches, excavation of machine dug trenches was used to establish the presence / absence of the cropmark ditches and any extensions. Trench 03 was located at the junction of cropmarks I and VI … a 10 x 10m area was stripped. Trench 04 was located at the E end of cropmark I examined in T03. Trenches 01 and 09, and four inbetween, and 10 and 11, did not reveal the cropmarks they were intended to intersect. (1)
