Description

A second phase of evaluation was undertaken by John Samuels on behalf of TVARC. There were excavations in three areas, cuttings 2, 3 and 4. Cutting 2 covered bay 1 of the front range, extending into bays 1 and 2 N of the cellars in the S wing. It lay W and S of cutting 1. Much of the interior was unavailable for excavation because of extensive cellarage and cutting 3 was situated at the S end of the south wing in bays 6 - 8. Cutting 4 in the courtyard, was excavated in advance of resurfacing outside the present pub. (1) See E95 for earlier excavation of cutting 1.
