Description

Six small trenches of varying shapes were excavated: two on the roundabout itself, three on the triangular traffic island to the N of the roundabout and one on the E verge of the A46 N of the roundabout. This entailed the removal of the turf, topsoil and up to a metre of the underlying deposits by machine. The trenches were then left open for archaeological investigation. All of the exposed sections and the base of each trench were examined and cleaned. (1) Grid reference for Trencht 01.
