Description
Watching brief on a number of small test pits excavated for the placement of equipment for seismic investigations. Two main lines of test pits were dug. The first ran from Cropwell Butler along the line of Hardigate Road and Henson Lane to its junction with the A52 and continuing on the opposite side along Oatfield Lane. All of the test pits were excavated with a mini excavator using a narrow toothed bucket. Each pit was approximately 1m x 0.6m wide and 70 - 80 cm deep. The pits were located in the hedgerow ditches of the grass verge where possible. … No evidence was recovered in any of the test pits of deposits or features of archaeological interest. (1)
