Description

A JCB with appropriate toothless ditching bucket was employed to remove topsoil. Machining ceased at the top of the first archaeological horizon, or natural subsoil if no archaeological remains were discovered. Trenches were cleaned by hand, sections were cut across linear features. All artefactual material was collected and the location recorded on a 2m grid. Trench 1 was to examine the ditches of the enclosure. Trench 2 was located to cut across the field boundary. (1) Grid reference for trench 01. See E9428 for gephysical survey, E9429 for fieldwalking, E9427 for area excavation.
