Description

Trench 01 … 80m long, averaging slightly less than 2m wide. Approximately 20m was widened to 3m. Topsoil and some subsoil was removed by JCB. The trench surface was then shovel-scraped and trowelled clean. Features were excavated by hand in trowelled 0.05 - 0.1m spits. … two further trial trenches (both c.10m x c.3m). 02 was placed 50m W of the geophysical survey area, 03, 100m W. Neither of these two trenches revealed any archaeological features. (1) Grid reference centred for trench 01. See E9315 for geophysical survey area.
