Description

Seven trial trenches were excavated and recorded over four days in January. Four trenches measured c.20 x 1.8m and three 10 x 1.8m giving a total excavation area of 1.7% of the site. Topsoil and overburden were removed by a JCB. Mechanical excavation ceased at either undisturbed natural deposits or when archaeological features were identified. All subsequent excavation was by hand... In Trenches 1, 3, 5 and 6 no archaeological features or deposits were exposed. (1) Grid ref centred.
