Description

The survey area lies on a coversands 'dune' on the edge of the floodplain on the E bank of the River Trent. In-situ magnetic susceptibility readings were taken on a 10m grid. Two areas of marginally higher magnetic susceptibility which is visible close to the S boundary of the survey area may be more significant archaeologically, as this pattern of enhancement may be associated with a slight topographic rise, although a natural (geological) origin cannot be completely discounted. (1) See E9398 for test pit 02, E9400 for geophysical survey on area B, to the N.
