Description

Fieldwalking of the proposed development site. (1) Areas of known archaeological potential were to be intensively walked, whereas areas with no known archaeological activity were to be assessed by line walking. Three areas were line walked, Area F, Area G2 and Area G3. Area G2 … unfavorable ground conditions. Particularly bad ground conditions in Area G3. One area intensively fieldwalked, Area G1. This area was walked in 10m square intervals with collection of all artefacts, excluding all modern material, which was noted but not collected. Walking took place on deep unweathered ploughed soil, the ground being damp throughout. (2) Gird ref centred. See E9412 for geophysical survey, E9413 for trial trenches.
