After completion of the excavations in 1997 it was decided to keep a "Watching Brief" on the site prior to the proposed expansion of the quarry and provision of an access road. A mechanical excavator was used to remove all the topsoil down to the sand and gravel to facilitate a further archaeological evaluation.
