Description

The aim of the Phase 3 evaluation was to establish the presence or absence of archaeological deposits. It was proposed to evaluate a 2% sample of the impacted land to the E of the railway (Field 4). This equated to two trenches, one 20 x 1.6m and one 40 x 1.6m. Trench 2 contained no visible subsoil but at the NW end of trench 1 there was a 0.5m thick layer of subsoil. No archaeological features or finds associated with archaeological features were discovered within the evaluation trenches. It is ikely that this area was heavily truncated during the construction of the powerstation and subsequent planting of the forest. (1) See E9447 for Phase 4 excavation and E9448 for Phase 4 watching brief, both to north.
