Description

The controlled strip, plan and record exercise took place within Field 2 along the line of the proposed Haul Road from the SW corner of the field to the NE and along the Access Road from the SW corner of the field along the W edge of the field. The Haul Road consisted of a curved linear trench 105 x 9m. The Access Road was excavated under similar conditions with the upper soils stripped down to the archaeological deposits or natural substratum. This trench incorporated the whole of Trench 30 of the Phase 2 evaluation. (1) See E9446 for evaluation in Field 4, E9448 for watching brief.
